1940’s Canadian Milk Wagon

Condition When Purchased
Fabricated new front and rear frames
Sand blasted and new shafts
The only other known milk wagon like ours

I call this milk wagon the Canadian Milk Wagon because there is no VIN plate on it that we can identify it. We know it was made and operated in Canadia. We think it came from the Onterio Canada area. There is another one like this that the Reid’s Dairy of Onterio has it setting outside one of their Dairy Stores with a life size fiberglass horse hooked up to it.

 

The unusual design of this wagon makes it look like a converted Olson Aluminum van delivery truck. That is what I thought when I first saw the truck. But after looking it over, we found out that it wasn’t a conversion. It was originally manufactured to be a horse drawn milk wagon. The other unusual feature in the design is the uni-body construction. The aluminum panels have some deterioration from the Canadian salted roads during the winter. The salted road cause the underframe area of the wagon to rusted out. We fabricated a new front and rear frame section and mounted them onto the body. We have installed new aluminum interior floors on the wagon. We are work on trying to repair the side panels while trying to keep the unibody in shape. We went to a Lancaster county Amish supply barn to buy a good pair of shaft for a horse to pull the wagon.

 

Horse drawn milk wagons were popularly used in Canada into the late 1960’s as the attached pictures show.
