1960 Thunderbird 2-door
Ford Thunderbird
When Ford Motor Company came out with the sporty Thunderbird in 1955, I thought they were really neat. In the summer of 1956 I almost bought a red T-bird with a white hardtop but because I was going to be married in five months my Dad advised me not to spend my money on a two-seater car and I didn’t, until 48 years later.
In 2004 I bought a 1955 Aqua/White 1955 T-bird. Then in 2010 I got a 1956 Yellow T-Bird. But by now I wasn’t as flexible as I was in 1956 and it was getting harder to get in and out of these low sporty cars. Since I still wanted to have a Thunderbird in my collection, I checked into the later models that were bigger and would seat four adults comfortably. These new and bigger Thunderbirds (1958 to 1960) are known as the “Square Bird”. I searched for a 1960 Thunderbird that was in excellent condition and found one.
The car that I found is original, except it was professionally painted in 1998. The interior and all mechanicals are it tip-top condition and the car looks like it came off the show-room floor about a year ago. The car has all the power equipment and only has 24,800 original miles on it. This “Square Bird” handles like a luxury sedan but has the styling of a sports car. I like it.
